Loxton Heritage Park Gathering

We just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Friends of Loxton Heritage Park gathering on Sunday, 29 March. It was such a special morning, and we’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and enthusiasm you all brought.

A special thank you as well to those who arrived early to help with the park clean-up, your effort truly makes a difference, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

We also wanted to take a moment to reassure residents that all work and improvements taking place in the park are being done with the necessary permits and permissions from the city. The city has been informed every step of the way and has even contributed toward certain aspects of the project. Our intention is always to work collaboratively and responsibly to create a space that benefits the entire community.

We understand that change can sometimes bring questions or concerns, and we encourage everyone to keep a positive and open outlook. This project is about building something meaningful for all who live here, not for any one individual, but for the community as a whole.

As discussed at the gathering, a few key points moving forward:

  • A fence will be installed around the park.

  • We loved the interest shown in ideas such as a coffee/food truck, a community garden, and the thoughtful conversations around parking considerations.

  • We’re especially excited about creating a space where residents, particularly those in nearby flats, can enjoy some green space and quite literally “get grass under their feet.”

  • There was also valuable discussion around after-hours access, including the possibility of set park hours, as well as ideas like controlled access (e.g. keys), to ensure the space remains safe and enjoyable, especially for summer evening picnics.

We want to emphasise that all ideas and input are truly welcome and appreciated. They help shape the vision and ensure the park remains inclusive and beneficial to everyone. At the same time, we encourage constructive and positive conversations, and a shared understanding that meaningful change takes time, nothing happens overnight.

Thank you again for being part of this journey with us. We’re looking forward to many more gatherings and to continuing to build something special together.
