Art, History, and the First Steps Forward

A very special day has arrived at Loxton Heritage Park, as the first visible steps in our park’s journey have taken shape.

We worked with a talented local sculptor, Stanley, to create a series of pieces that honour the animals that once moved across this land. These sculptures offer a quiet but powerful nod to the natural history of the area, a reminder that long before pathways and people, this landscape was shaped by animals whose presence helped define it.

In keeping with the values guiding the restoration of the park, the sculptures are made from recycled metals, reflecting an environmentally conscious approach to art and design. Materials once considered waste have been repurposed into something meaningful, proving that what is often dismissed as “trash” can be transformed into something beautiful and lasting.

Each piece is intentionally unique, raw, layered, and expressive, much like our nation and our community. There is no single narrative or polished uniformity here; instead, the sculptures embrace diversity, texture, and imperfection, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and interpret them in their own way.

These artworks represent more than just an aesthetic addition to the park. They mark the beginning of a longer journey, one rooted in respect for the past, care for the environment, and a belief in the power of community-led creativity.

As you explore the park and view the photos and videos being shared, we ask that you please be respectful of the sculptures. They are not designed to be climbed on or hung from, and we encourage everyone to speak up if they see the artworks being mistreated. Caring for shared spaces, and shared art, is something we all play a role in.

This is only the first of many steps, and we’re excited to continue shaping Loxton Heritage Park together - thoughtfully, sustainably, and with heart.
